This year’s meeting of the Maher Interfaith Association was held on 2nd February. The meeting was the Association’s first anniversary. The Association was founded on 2nd February last year to happily coincide with the 20th anniversary of Maher. The meeting was attended by spiritual leaders from different faiths- Pundit Madhusudan, Bhikkhu Kanuraj Gaikwad, Fr. Mathew and Mr.Abdulrahim A Haji.

Mr Pol then requested each of the spiritual leaders to come forward and share their thoughts. The spiritual leaders happily shared platform to say a few words in blessing and underlined the significance of the interfaith message. Both Bhikkhu Kanuraj Gaikwad and Mr.Abdulrahim respectively recited verses from Buddhist and Islamic scriptures. Mr.Abdulrahim pointed out how the Koran stressed the importance of being a good human being.

Mr. Alex from Austria said how during his travels around the world he had always tried to seek the good in the people around rather than what religion, culture and community they belonged to. Mrs.Shirly Anthony and a few others also shared their feelings and views on the occasion. This was followed by the reading of the report of the last year’s activities of the Association.

Sister Lucy in her concluding speech expressed her wish to see a united India and a united world. She said it was her dream and appealed the members of the association to strive hard to make this dream a reality.
This was followed by a silent meditation for a few minutes when everybody closed their eyes and listened to a soothing Tibetan music for deep meditation which was played in the background. After ‘Listening to your Heart’ meditation, everybody was asked to form a circle, hold hands in silent prayer and sing the inspirational song “We shall overcome someday”, in English and Hindi.

The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr.Mangesh Pol.
